Rainfall Coil Vessel with Butterflies: Wood Soda Fired
This one of a kind coil handbuild vessel is made by wrapping long coils of clay and using my fingers to pull the pieces down and together leaving that recognizable texture. I then sculpted individual butterflies and attached them to the surface. Let me tell you, I was so nervous to send this through the kiln but so happy with how it came out - check out those bright red flashes and white glassy highlights!
This piece is atmospheric fired in a wood soda kiln, meaning the surface of the pot has accumulated wood and soda ash giving you all that juice and texture! I cannot control the color or texture of the surfaces making each piece completely unique based on where in the kiln and how much ash interacted with the pot. Magic right?!
All items in this shop are lovingly handmade by Benjamin Cahoon near Portland, Oregon and therefore may have slight imperfections, from my hands. If you’re looking for something different try a machine! <3
